Event Operations Team

The Event Operations team’s goal is to create a welcoming, safe and secure environment for all who experience our venues. Our Event Operations team works efficiently and productively to help ensure that our live events run as smoothly as possible to create excellent customer experiences and increase repeat customer business. Our staff will work at different venues to support the operational and staffing needs of the company.

Position Summary and Training Structure

Event Operations staff report directly to the Director of Event Operations. Event Operations staff are responsible for following our safety and liability procedures. Additionally, members of this team must effectively communicate and enforce First Avenue policies and procedures ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all customers. This team receives hands-on training, as they work alongside their operations management and their coworkers. Newly hired event staff are initially trained in one area and will eventually be expected to perform and be proficient in several different roles. Key responsibilities and duties are outlined below. Please note that this position is part of the Unite Here Local 17 AFL-CIO bargaining unit and is covered by the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement.

Part-Time, non-exempt
Hourly wage: $17.50 per hour

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Ticket Taker

  • Welcome guests as they arrive
  • Scan tickets and escalate any ticket issues to a manager
  • Monitor pass-through magnetometer

    Floor Staff

    • Ensure that the physical environment stays clean, safe, and functional
    • Clean clutter and spills
    • Wipe down surfaces and clean bathrooms regularly
    • Accurately provide change to bartenders as needed
    • Remove trash and conduct other cleaning duties after closing

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Strong customer service orientation
    • Ability to engage verbally with tact and diplomacy
    • Ability to multitask, and effectively prioritize, in a busy environment
    • Knowledge and ability to follow Company safety and liability procedures.
    • Knowledge and ability to evaluate issues that may pose a liability, such as over-intoxication or unruly conduct, and escalating to a manager.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
    • Ability to quickly reach, grab, lift, and carry up to 30 pounds
    • Ability to hear in loud environments
    • Ability to see in dark environments
    • Ability to quickly move throughout different venues and multiple-level buildings
    • Ability to move quickly through large crowds of people
    • Ability to walk up and down stairs, ladders, and ramps
    • Ability to quickly move between the inside and outside of different venues and buildings
    • Ability to learn and use touch-screen devices and point-of-sale screens, computers, and mobile ticketing devices

    Qualifications

    • Prior experience in hospitality or events preferred but not required
    • Punctuality and reliable attendance
    • Basic math skills and good attention to detail for all positions involving ID checking, cash-handling, or credit card processing

    Other Requirements:

    • Schedule/Hours/Availability: Must be willing and able to work flexible hours and a rotating weekly schedule to support a 7-day week operation, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be available to work an irregular schedule, including closing shifts, as required by venue schedules
    • Attendance: Regular attendance is required.
    • Locations: Shifts may be scheduled at different venues located throughout Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and other surrounding cities, including the First Avenue Mainroom, 7th St Entry, Turf Club, Fine Line, Palace Theatre, and Fitzgerald Theater as needed.
    • Age: Must be 18 years of age or older.
    • Work Authorization: Must be currently eligible and possess authorization to work in the United States of America. Must not require sponsorship by our company for work visas.
    • Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to venues located in downtown Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and surrounding cities.
